Kym Kays is a graduate from Pittsburg State University and started working in human resources more than 20 years ago. Kym moved to Independence with her husband in children in 2005 after opening their human resources franchise, Express Employment Professionals. From temporary staffing to direct hire professional placement, this business fit her desire to help people in a significant way, as job seekers often can be at one of the lowest points in their life – out of work and looking for a job that pays a living wage. In addition to staffing, they also provide testing, human resource consulting, handbook creation and audits, as well as training.

Kym currently serves on the William Inge Festival Foundation Board and has volunteered with college and festival theatre productions for many years. For several years, she has been a chairperson for the Verdigris Valley Art Exhibition and is active in their art club. She serves is an elder at First Presbyterian Church where she and her husband are members. Kym has previously served on the Independence Community College board of trustees, was the former Chamber chairman of the Independence Chamber of Commerce, served on the Main Street board, the Independence Historical Society and Art Center and the Leadership Independence boards.
